Her status, if long overlooked in the history of World War II for her contribution to the liberation of France, was well understood at the time by Klaus Barbie, the Gestapo leader known as the “Butcher of Lyon.” She was atop his most-wanted list, and, if captured, a horrific death awaited her. She had been fighting Hitler for nearly two years when her country backed into the war in Europe after Pearl Harbor. She was, to be sure, a crackerjack infiltrator, first for the British and later for her own country.īut she also was a guerrilla leader fighting the good fight against Nazi Germany four years before the allies landed at Normandy in 1944. ![]() imo it's a must see for "Twin Peaks" fans, there's a lot of absurdist humour, like the cliched locals of their respective geography and communities which sometimes played into Peaks, and it also has that warm tone in both it's writing and visuals. It was done around '88, shortly after "Blue Velvet". Dean Hurley is featured as a guitarist (who also played on a few tracks from the series), Johanna Ray did the casting, Frank Silva did the set design, Catherine Coulson was the camera assissant cinematographer was constant Lynch co-conspirator Fred Elmes (though i don't think he ever worked on Peaks, right?). I was watching this strange little film from Lynch again last night (i've seen it on YouTube before) but i finally got my hands on the Short Films DVD to see it properly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() She is the eternal night symbol of the moon in opposition to the Day-Keepers At her majority (her three hundredth birthday), she is given a silver-cubed hologram letter from her mother, containing a videotape of her conception by the savage bronzed barbarian god from another world. Morris strengthens the moon imagery by having Estri as a well-keepress because wells, fountains, and the moon as the orb which controls water have long been associated with fertility, In a sense, she is like the moon because she is apparently eternal, never waxing or waning except in her pursuit of the quest she is the prototypical wanderer like the moon and Ishtar. Linking Estri with these lunar and water symbols is not difficult because of the moon's eternal virginity (the strength of integrity) links with her changeability (the prostitute's switching of lovers). the free woman, as opposed to the domesticated woman".
